Hummer History:
The Hummer brand can actually trace its roots back to the famous the Jeep. The jeep was first designed in 1940 by Willys-Overland Company. With the Jeep getting so popular, Henry J. Kaiser purchased the Willys-Overland company in 1953.However, American Motors bought the company in 1970 and renamed it the Jeep Corporation. A year later, the Government Products division was spun off as a wholly owned subsidiary known as AM General. During the 1980s, the company, now owned by the LTV Corporation, designed a vehicle to compete for a contract offered by the U.S. Army. Called the High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV, or Humvee, as it came to be known); it was designed to serve as the militarysmain light tactical vehicle. AM General won a 1983 production contract that required the delivery of 55,000 vehicles over a period of five-years. AM GeneralsHumvees were very useful during the Persian Gulf War in the early "90s. The vehicleswartime ability garnered so much publicity and this led to AM General to introduce a civilian version of the Humvee, called the Hummer, in 1992. In 1999, General Motors bought the rights to the Hummer brand name and became responsible for the development; marketing and distribution of future Hummer SUVs. Production of the very first Hammer, the H1 ended in the year 2006 but new versions of the Hammer have since been produced.
Hummer Overview:
Hummer is a brand of large off-road vehicles or sport utility vehicles sold by General Motors, also known as GM. They are based on the military High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), or Humvee. With a very High fuel consumption rate, the hummer is one of the largest 4 x 4 vehicles available.
Other Hummer Details:
There are many models of the hammer available. However, production of the first civilian Hummer, the H1 was ended in 2006.Ever since, new models; the H2 and the H3 have been built. The H2 SUV/SUT/Hydrogen is the second vehicle sold under the Hummer marque of General Motors. It is a large truck (lighter and slightly slimmer than the Hummer H1, while slightly longer and slightly taller) with room for six passengers. The Hummer H3 SUV/Tri/x was introduced in 2006. The H3 is the smallest of the three Hummer models, and though the H3 concept car was a pickup truck, the final vehicle is a conventional SUV. Its GMT345 platform is based on the GMT355 which underpins the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks. The Hummer H4 or HX is a proposed SUV reportedly in development by the General Motors Hummer division. GM may have a finished model to introduce to the market in 2008 or 2009. It is expected to compete with the Jeep Wrangler for market share. The development on new Hummer models so far has been towards SUVs that are more suitable for city traffic, a development which culminated in the Hummer H3. However, the H4 is likely to be more basic, and the focus is once again on off-road ability.
